The Junior School Certificate (JSC) was a public examination taken by students in Bangladesh after successful completion of eight years of schooling. It was introduced in 2010. It is followed by the Secondary School Certificate (SSC). Before the SSC was introduced, an exam was taken in its place (then known as Madhyamik Britti or Junior Scholarship). This was a voluntary vocational exam and not mandatory, which were later made mandatory and renamed as junior school certificate. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the exams could not be held in 2020 and 2021. The government also decided not to hold the Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) examinations in 2022. In 2023, The ministry of education of Bangladesh stated that there will be no JSC-JDC examination in the new curriculum. From 2024, class VIII and class IX exams will be held under the new syllabus.

Secondary School Certificate is a public examination in Bangladesh conducted by the Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education under the Ministry of Education. SSC is held based on the books of classes 9 and 10, which are usually the same. To pass, a student has to undergo both a written and a practical exam. Students of religious and English medium streams also sit for their respective public examinations, Dakhil and O-Level, conducted by the Madrasah Education Board, Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) and Pearson Edexcel under the board of British Council, as well as other curriculums such as International Baccalaureate, respectively to qualify for further education. SSC or equivalent is mandatory in order to get admitted into colleges and later, universities. Usually, it is held between the months of February and March every year.

Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC), Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) or Higher Secondary Education Certificate (HSEC) is a secondary education qualification in Bangladesh, India and Pakistan. It is equivalent to the final year of high school in the United States and GCSE and/or A level in the United Kingdom. In Bangladesh, education is compulsory for 10 years and pupils will receive a secondary school certificate. The HSC is the continuation of the "Secondary Education Courses" and it precedes the " Tertiary Education" governed by the Universities. Class XI - XII roughly covers the 16-17 age group in the context of Bangladesh.
